I am writing to demand—not request—that you put an immediate stop to any effort by President Trump or his administration to escalate tensions with Venezuela or push the United States toward yet another unnecessary and unwanted war.
The American people are exhausted by decades of interventionist disasters. We have paid in lives, in trillions of dollars, and in the erosion of trust in our government. And we are absolutely not willing to be dragged into a new conflict that has no justification, no congressional authorization, and no support from the majority of your constituents.
Let me be crystal clear: the public does not want a war with Venezuela. There is no mandate from the people, and there is no legal authority from Congress. Any attempt by the President to unilaterally provoke or initiate military action is an abuse of power and a violation of the Constitution’s requirement that Congress—not the Executive—holds the power to declare war.
You have both the responsibility and the authority to stop this before it becomes another catastrophic chapter in American foreign policy. Use every tool at your disposal: public statements, hearings, legislation, funding restrictions, and—if necessary—legal action. History will not forgive Congress for standing by silently while an unnecessary conflict is manufactured.
The world is watching. Your constituents are watching. And we expect Congress to stand firm, stand united, and stand in the way of any reckless march toward war.
Do your duty. Stop this before it starts.
