I am writing as your constituent to urge you to take immediate action to end the detention of children in immigration enforcement operations.
Regardless of their immigration status, children deserve to be treated with dignity, compassion, and humanity. Detaining children can cause lasting emotional and psychological harm, and many child welfare experts have warned about the negative effects of detention on a child's well-being. Children should never be placed in environments that cause fear, trauma, or prolonged uncertainty.
I respectfully ask you to support policies that prioritize community-based alternatives, keep families safe whenever possible, and ensure that the best interests of every child remain at the center of our nation's immigration system.
I urge you to use your voice and your vote to protect children from unnecessary detention and to pursue immigration policies that reflect our shared values of compassion, due process, and human dignity.
Thank you for your service and for considering my concerns. I hope you will act to protect vulnerable children.
