An Open Letter

To: Gov. Whitmer

From: A constituent in Rockford, MI

August 15

Request for Investigation: Plainfield Township Trustee Conduct I am writing to request an official state investigation into the conduct and online activities of Plainfield Township Trustee Robert Reminga regarding reported anti-Muslim and other violent, threatening social media posts. Public reports indicate that Trustee Reminga’s account shared an extremely disturbing image depicting a "hunting permit" targeted at Muslims. Such content goes beyond offensive political discourse; it incites violence and threats against people and their places of worship. While Mr. Reminga has denied posting these deplorable threats, the severity of content advocating violence against residents severely undermines public trust in his ability to serve all constituents fairly and safely. The local township board has already voted to censure Reminga and requested his resignation, reflecting the community's deep concern and condemnation. However, local administrative actions alone do not fully address the serious safety and civil rights implications raised by such violent threats. As the executive leader of our state, your office plays a vital role in upholding standards of public integrity and civil rights protection. I urge you to direct an appropriate state entity to investigate these online activities to determine whether any laws or ethical codes governing elected officials were violated, and to ensure the safety and dignity of all residents.
