Preserve USPS public service, modernize infrastructure and operations

To: Sen. Merkley, Rep. Salinas, Sen. Wyden

From: A constituent in Salem, OR

February 22, 2025

The United States Postal Service is a constitutionally mandated service that should not be treated as a for-profit business venture. It provides an essential public service to all Americans, regardless of location or socioeconomic status. Privatizing or undermining the USPS would disproportionately harm rural communities, seniors, veterans, and low-income families who rely on it for affordable mail delivery. Instead of exploring privatization, Congress should allocate adequate funding to modernize the USPS infrastructure and operations while preserving its public service mission. The USPS belongs to the American people, not private corporations.
