The proposed shutdown of USAID by the Trump administration and billionaire adviser Elon Musk represents a disturbing dismissal of democratic processes. I vehemently object to an unelected private citizen being granted unchecked access to dismantle a critical government agency providing humanitarian aid, development assistance, and security support globally. This unilateral overreach undermines the fundamental principles of checks and balances enshrined in our system of government. Allowing Musk to compromise USAID's operations without any oversight or accountability is an unacceptable violation of institutional integrity that should not be tolerated. The American people deserve assurances that pivotal decisions impacting millions of vulnerable lives worldwide will be subject to full public scrutiny, debate, and legislative due process. Preserving USAID's mission must remain a priority, not be subverted through back-channel dealings that circumvent established democratic norms.
