Suspending the writ of habeas corpus, the fundamental legal protection allowing those detained to challenge the basis for their imprisonment, would enable indefinite detention without due process. This flagrant violation of constitutional rights and human rights cannot be justified by the administration's unfounded claim of an "invasion" that courts have consistently rejected. An influx of migrants, even unwelcome, does not constitute a military threat warranting suspension of habeas corpus under the Constitution. Depriving individuals of this core legal safeguard opens the door to oppressive government overreach and unchecked abuses of power. I urge you to fight this potential injustice with every tool that you have. This is a fundamental right in a democracy. Without it, there is no due process, and there can be no justice.
