An Open Letter

I am writing to you not only as a constituent, but also as someone who believes our leaders must be held to the highest ethical and moral standards—especially those who claim to represent Christian values. I am alarmed that former President Donald J. Trump continues to receive support from elected officials despite a staggering number of criminal convictions, civil judgments, and a public life marked by dishonesty, corruption, and personal immorality. Donald Trump is now a convicted felon, found guilty on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in connection with hush money payments made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels. These payments were intended to hide an affair and mislead voters ahead of the 2016 election. This wasn’t just unethical—it was criminal, and it was done to manipulate a democratic process. This conduct flies in the face of the truthfulness, humility, and accountability that are central to both American and Christian principles. In addition to his criminal convictions, Mr. Trump has lost multiple major civil cases: He was ordered to pay $25 million in restitution for defrauding students at Trump University. A court found that he engaged in massive financial fraud, inflating asset values to mislead banks and insurers, resulting in penalties exceeding $350 million. He was held liable for sexual abuse and defamation in a civil case brought by E. Jean Carroll, and ordered to pay millions more in damages. His company was convicted of criminal tax fraud and fined accordingly. He has been sanctioned by courts for frivolous lawsuits and contempt of court. Donald Trump’s behavior shows no regard for the rule of law, truth, or basic human decency. He has mocked disabled individuals, spread hate and conspiracy theories, demeaned women, and consistently put his own interests above the well-being of others. These are not the qualities of a moral leader, let alone someone who should be considered a model for Christian voters. Jesus taught compassion, honesty, humility, and love for the marginalized. Donald Trump has exhibited the opposite throughout his public life. Supporting a man who brags about his infidelities, defies justice, and treats others with cruelty is not consistent with the values of Christ. We are called to speak the truth—even when it is politically inconvenient. As your constituent, I ask you to take an honest and public stand. Acknowledge the gravity of these convictions and judgments. Make clear that our nation, and especially our faith communities, must not excuse or normalize criminal conduct and moral bankruptcy for the sake of political power. We need leaders who stand for integrity, not opportunism. Please do not be complicit in rewriting the meaning of justice, character, or faith.
