Compel Justices Alito and Thomas to Recuse Themselves

To: Sen. Smith, Rep. McCollum, Sen. Klobuchar, Pres. Biden

From: A constituent in Saint Paul, MN

May 30

Two Supreme Court justices, Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas, have faced growing calls to recuse themselves from cases related to the January 6th Capitol attack due to potential conflicts of interest. Both justices have ties to organizations and causes that promoted false claims about the 2020 election being "stolen." Justice Thomas's wife, Ginni Thomas, was actively involved in efforts to overturn the election results. The credibility and impartiality of the Supreme Court is paramount. It cannot be seen as taking partisan stances on pivotal issues related to American democracy. For the Court to properly fulfill its role as an independent arbiter of the law, justices must be held to the highest ethical standards. Any perceived bias or conflicts of interest severely undermine public trust in the institution. I urge you to compel Justices Alito and Thomas to recuse themselves from all cases pertaining to the January 6th insurrection and efforts to overturn the 2020 election results. Their apparent inability to remain objective on this matter jeopardizes the Court's legitimacy and creates a dangerous constitutional crisis. Recusal is necessary to uphold judicial ethics and preserve faith in the rule of law.
