I am writing to urge you to boycott the upcoming presidential inauguration. Rep. Bennie Thompson has rightly pointed out that there is no reason to celebrate an event for someone who threatened to imprison his political opponents. More than a dozen congressional Democrats have already decided to sit out this inauguration in protest. By joining this boycott, you can take a principled stand against the normalization of authoritarian rhetoric and the undermining of democratic norms. A widespread boycott will send a powerful message that such divisive and anti-democratic behavior has no place in our political system. I implore you to stand united with your colleagues and refuse to legitimize this troubling inauguration through your attendance.
