I am writing to express my deep concern about the policies and actions of our nation under President Trump's leadership. I believe they are causing major harm to both our political institutions and our economy. As one of your Democratic constituents, I recognize the challenges you face in the minority position. However, I believe strong opposition and action are still critical at this moment in our history. I urge you to consider two important political realities: First, Republican representatives who fail to stand against destructive policies will likely face electoral consequences when economic damage becomes evident to their constituents by the midterm elections. This creates potential for bipartisan cooperation with forward-thinking Republicans who recognize these risks. Second, even Democratic representatives who remain passive during this critical period may face primary challenges from more progressive candidates who demand stronger resistance. Simply being in the opposition party is not enough - we, the voters expect real action and leadership. Even more concerning is the possibility that democratic processes themselves may be undermined through manufactured crises or conflicts (war?) that could restrict voting rights. I urge you to take the following concrete actions: 1. Actively oppose and build coalitions against harmful tariff policies by supporting legislation like the Trade Review Act of 2025 2. Join or initiate impeachment proceedings where warranted 3. Introduce legislation to further restrict executive powers 4. Champion electoral reforms including federal ranked-choice voting and independent redistricting commissions I encourage you to build bridges with moderate Republicans who may privately share these concerns. Our democratic system depends on courageous representatives willing to put country above party.
