I am an Oregon resident and a believer in preserving nationally important historical sites.
I would be very grateful for your assistance securing state or federal funds to assist in repairing a historic blimp hangar.
The iconic "Hangar B" at the Tillamook Air Museum (originally Naval Air Station Tillamook) is a historic WWII-era blimp hangar measuring 1,072 feet long and 192 feet high, and is currently closed indefinitely. The structure suffered massive roof damage during a winter storm and is undergoing a fight for its survival.
Hangar 8’s Board of Directors have made local pleas and held local fundraisers for assistance, but have been unsuccessful in raising the $5 million dollars needed to repair the roof damage. They have given up….it was announced yesterday they are unable to repair the roof….this is a tragic outcome. There are very few World War II blimp hangars that remain intact in our country.
I believe this hangar is worthy of national attention and support and the funding to save this unique building.
Can you please help secure funding to repair and preserve this historic property?
