Give Constituents the Same Healthcare Coverage You Give Yourselves

To: Sen. Schiff, Sen. Padilla, Rep. Chu

From: A verified voter in Pasadena, CA

September 15

Mitch McConnell just returned to the Senate after three months of paid medical leave, with full taxpayer-funded healthcare covering his recovery. That's the same healthcare you and every member of Congress enjoy. My family doesn't have that. I want you to fight for universal healthcare coverage so every American gets what you've already given yourselves. Melanie D'Arrigo put it plainly: "He just took three months of paid leave, with healthcare... subsidized by taxpayers. They oppose the things for us that they give to themselves." That's the contradiction I live with every time I skip a doctor's visit because of cost or ration medication because I can't afford the refill. McConnell's recovery was long and difficult — he said so himself. Nobody should have to face that kind of health crisis without the same safety net protecting him. You have the power to change this. Support universal, single-payer healthcare legislation. The standard you've set for yourselves is the standard every constituent deserves.
