Oppose H.R. 722 and Protect Alaskans’ Reproductive Freedom
To: Rep. Begich
From: A verified voter in Anchorage, AK
February 2, 2025
I urge you to oppose H.R. 722 and any attempt to impose a nationwide abortion ban. When the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, it placed abortion laws in the hands of individual states. Since then, voters—even in conservative states—have repeatedly affirmed their support for reproductive rights. Alaskans, known for our strong belief in personal privacy and limited government interference, do not want politicians making medical decisions for them.
H.R. 722, introduced by Rep. Eric Burlison, would apply the 14th Amendment’s “equal protection” clause to “unborn persons,” granting legal rights to fertilized eggs, embryos, and fetuses. This would effectively ban abortion nationwide, even in states like Alaska where voters value reproductive choice. Such an extreme federal overreach goes against the very principles of state sovereignty and individual freedom.
Alaskans do not need Washington bureaucrats dictating their healthcare choices. Our constitution upholds strong privacy protections, and the government should not interfere in deeply personal medical decisions. I urge you to stand with Alaskans and vote against H.R. 722 and any federal legislation that restricts reproductive rights.
Thank you for your time and your commitment to protecting the rights and freedoms of Alaskans.
