An Open Letter
To: Pres. Biden
From: A constituent in Astoria, NY
June 28, 2024
I wish I didn’t have to write this letter, Mr. President, but I’m sorry to say it’s time.
I’m writing to urge you to release your delegates and drop out of the 2024 presidential race.
It’s time to retire, at least from the toughest job in the world. You’ve done us all a great service in your four years. You guided us out of a global pandemic, put out many of the fires Trump set, and brought relief to millions, especially through the expanded child tax credit.
Now it would relieve most of those same millions if you were to step aside and give us enough time to rally around a new Democratic candidate. The convicted felon isn’t going to pull any punches and he’s not going to stop the fusillade of lies. He doesn’t need to be coherent because his closest supporters just want a firestarter. They want to watch the America we know and love burn to the ground because it means they’ll get theirs. They’ll get their “Christian” dictatorship and liberal democracy will be lost.
You’ve done your job. You got us out of the wilderness. Now it’s time to take a step back and embrace a new role as the wise elder statesman who can help a new generation of leadership carry on the task of protecting the democracy you worked so hard to save.
