Resume Sanctions on Russian Oil Immediately

To: Sen. Schiff, Sen. Padilla, Rep. Liccardo

From: A verified voter in Saratoga, CA

March 27

I'm writing to urge you to pressure the White House to immediately resume comprehensive sanctions on Russian oil exports. The current policy gives Russia billions in revenue that directly funds its ongoing war in Ukraine. Even worse, since we’re already locked into a war with Iran choking off oil supplies, that money from their oil sales could be used to bankroll arms for their unjust Ukraine war and bankroll more weapons for Iran! European allies have demonstrated that economies can function without Russian energy, yet we've allowed sanctions to weaken. This undermines both our national security interests and our commitment to Ukrainian sovereignty. Resuming these sanctions will pressure Russia economically where it matters most. Oil revenue accounts for a massive portion of their federal budget. Cutting off this funding stream is one of the most effective non-military tools we have to change the calculus in Moscow. I urge you to prioritize this issue and push for renewed sanctions legislation. Thank you.
