Expand Social Security Benefits and Make the Ultra-Wealthy Pay In

To: Sen. Lee, Gov. Cox, Sen. Curtis, Sen. Plumb, Rep. Dailey-Provost, Rep. Maloy, Pres. Trump

From: A constituent in Salt Lake City, UT

Support expanding Social Security benefits — and make sure the ultra-wealthy are actually funding it. Millions of retirees, disabled workers, and surviving family members rely on this program as their primary or only source of income. Benefits have failed to keep pace with real costs for decades, and that gap is crushing people who worked their entire lives and played by the rules. The fix is obvious: eliminate the payroll tax cap entirely. Right now, earnings above $168,600 are exempt from Social Security taxes, which means a trillionaire pays the exact same dollar amount into the system as someone making $170,000. That is indefensible. Lifting the cap would generate hundreds of billions in new revenue and fund a meaningful, lasting benefit increase for the people who need it most. The ultra-wealthy have benefited enormously from this economy — there is no justification for shielding their income from the same obligations everyone else faces. Vote yes on any legislation that expands Social Security benefits and removes the payroll tax cap. This is not a fringe position — it is broadly popular across party lines, and the moral case is airtight. Retirees and working families cannot wait any longer for relief while billionaires and trillionaires contribute a fraction of a percent of their income to the system. Do the right thing and fight for this.
