Sir, I am writing tonight to express my anger and displeasure at all of Congress. Not a single one of you deserves your seat right now. Never before have I been embarrassed to be an American citizen, but tonight I am exactly that.
This current federal shutdown is a power play of extremely childish proportions and you should be absolutely ashamed to call yourselves colleagues. I am disappointed that my adult children, who have jobs, and in fact have multiple jobs, may not be able to afford their groceries in the next several days. I am ANGRY, that these hard working young adults, working up to 60 hours a week each, living in a small apartment with friends, have to worry how they'll put food on the table. I am angry that all of Congress will sit in their cushy chairs, draw your entirely undeserved salary, and let people be hungry.
For what? What purpose does this serve? Are you trying to run this country into the ground? Because that's exactly what YOU are permitting to happen. I am angry that you won't work with your colleagues. REALLY work with them, not this ridiculous posturing. It's time to DEMAND that the House Speaker do his job. It's time to DEMAND that healthcare for our most vulnerable be preserved. It's time to DEMAND that more than 40 million Americans, the working poor, or those who have finally retired from the working poor, be permitted to use their SNAP benefits. What else do we pay taxes for, I ask you? To fund this ridiculous posturing? Grow up. Act like a MAN. Sit down. Shake a colleague's hand who feels differently than you, and have a calm, intelligent conversation. I hope this weighs heavily on your soul... though I'm beginning to doubt that you have one. May you have the day you deserve.
