Stop humanitarian crisis in Gaza, ensure aid access

To: Rep. Houlahan

From: A constituent in Reading, PA

July 27

The ongoing blockade and aid distribution crisis in Gaza is causing immense suffering, with a third of the population on the brink of starvation. While Israel claims to be allowing aid trucks into Gaza, the process is plagued by bureaucracy, deadly attacks on civilians seeking food, and a bombing campaign that has escalated civil disorder. Aid agencies report severe difficulties in safely retrieving and distributing the limited aid supplies, with convoys frequently delayed or denied entry. This has led to desperate crowds ambushing aid trucks, resulting in over 1,000 fatalities as Israeli troops fire on gatherings. The current approach is clearly unacceptable and unsustainable. A new strategy is urgently needed to ensure the safe, sustained delivery of lifesaving food, water and medical aid to the people of Gaza. The blockade must be lifted to allow unfettered humanitarian access, and Israel must work cooperatively with aid agencies to streamline procedures and provide adequate security for distribution efforts. Continuing the status quo will only deepen the catastrophic human toll. Prioritizing humanitarian concerns over political divisions is a moral imperative to prevent further loss of life from starvation and conflict.
