As your constituent, I demand that Congress fulfill its Article I constitutional duty and take up the formal articles of impeachment against Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth (H.Res. 1177).
The articles document a systematic pattern of constitutional and statutory violations.
- Prosecuting an Unauthorized War: Executing unapproved hostilities against Iran beginning February 28 without a congressional declaration of war. National Counterterrorism Center Director Joe Kent resigned over the campaign, confirming Iran posed no imminent threat to the homeland.
- Defying Statutory War Powers Mandates: Directing combat operations after both chambers passed H.Con.Res. 86 directing the removal of U.S. forces, while ignoring the 60-day War Powers Resolution deadline.
- Dismantling Civilian-Harm Safeguards: Slashing over 90 percent of civilian-protection staff across combatant commands prior to strikes, including the bombing of a girls' school in Minab, Iran, which killed over 150 civilians.
- Authorizing Unlawful Maritime Strikes: Overseeing 63 boat strikes resulting in at least 221 deaths under reckless targeting rules that required neither positive drug identification nor combatant status, including unlawful follow-up strikes on sea survivors.
- Retaliating Against Sitting Lawmakers: Threatening court-martial proceedings and issuing an official censure against Senator Mark Kelly for reminding servicemembers of their legal duty under the UCMJ to refuse unlawful orders.
- Concealing Combat Casualties: Obscuring the human toll of this conflict as Pentagon tallies reach 23 U.S. servicemembers killed and 866 wounded, using generic administrative reclassifications and suppressed traumatic brain injury data to mislead Congress.
I urge you to take immediate legislative action:
1. House: Co-sponsor H.Res. 1177, force a recorded floor vote, and vote NO on any procedural motion to table or bury the resolution in committee.
2. Senate: Publicly commit to conducting a full constitutional trial upon House impeachment.
3. Casualty Audit: Compel the Department of Defense to publish an unredacted audit of all combat and maritime strike casualties within 30 days.
4. Subpoena Legal Memos: Subpoena the classified legal opinions used to rationalize maritime strikes and civilian targeting.
Reclaim Article I authority and hold defense leadership accountable to the law.
