Support for the People’s PROTECT Act Platform in the Senate
To: Sen. Howard
From: A verified voter in Lowell, MA
April 30
I’m writing because I support strong, impactful immigration justice legislation passing this session. While the House version of the PROTECT Act includes important steps towards protecting immigrant communities from ICE, I am concerned that the bill doesn’t go far enough to truly protect our immigrant communities. I am writing to urge your support in filing the stronger Senate version of the PROTECT Act based on three key priorities of grassroots immigration groups. These include:
1 Ending Law Enforcement Collaboration with ICE by ending Massachusetts' only existing 287(g) program, prohibiting information sharing with ICE, and ending fusion centers.
2 Expand optional virtual access to court proceedings.
3 Reject the House’s narrowing of provisions intended to make U and T visa certification more accessible and restore the PROTECT Act’s original draft language expanding the agencies eligible to certify, protecting qualifying dependents from aging out, and requiring agencies to respond to certification requests within 30 days.
It is important to me that we take strong action in protecting our immigrant neighbors.
Will you be able to contact Sen Payano, Sen Friedman, Sen, Rodrigues, and Senate President Spilka to share your support for the People’s PROTECT Act Platform making it into the Senate PROTECT Act?
