Safeguard civil liberties, amend anti-terror bill due process
To: Sen. Hickenlooper, Sen. Bennet
From: A verified voter in Indian Hills, CO
November 26
The language of this bill suppresses free speech, allows the government to persecute legitimate not-for-profits under the guise of being anti-terror, and threatens constitutional freedoms of speech and association by enabling designation of groups as "terrorist supporting" without robust due process. Comprehensive amendments are urgently needed to incorporate stringent transparency requirements, robust oversight mechanisms, and meaningful appeals processes to safeguard against potential misuse targeting lawful advocacy organizations merely for opposing government stances. Securing both national security and inviolable civil liberties demands meticulous balance. I request to vote against and defeat this bill publicly.
