Here's a letter you can send to your Senators: Subject: Protecting NPR and Public Broadcasting from Political Retaliation Dear Senator I am writing to express deep concern about the Federal Communications Commission’s investigation into NPR, which appears to be an effort to silence an independent news source that cannot be controlled by partisan interests. NPR’s programming includes inclusive values and accurate historical reporting, ensuring that people of color, immigrants, and marginalized communities are represented as vital, contributing members of American society rather than as “problem populations.” The attack on NPR is not about journalistic integrity—it is a political attempt to undermine a trusted institution that provides factual, in-depth reporting to millions of Americans. Public broadcasting, including NPR and PBS, plays an essential role in a functioning democracy. These platforms provide rigorous investigative journalism, cultural programming, and educational content free from corporate and government influence. Unlike many commercial networks, NPR adheres to high editorial standards, delivering unbiased, fact-based reporting that informs the public on crucial issues, from climate change to economic policy. The accuracy and credibility of NPR’s journalism have been repeatedly validated, and its coverage includes diverse perspectives that reflect the true fabric of American life. The growing trend of targeting independent journalism—especially sources that challenge extremist narratives—threatens press freedom. It is imperative that we uphold the First Amendment and protect public media from politically motivated attacks. A free press is essential to holding power accountable, providing citizens with reliable information, and fostering civic engagement. I urge you to take a stand against these efforts to defund or silence NPR and other public media organizations. Please advocate for continued federal support of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and push back against attempts to erode journalistic independence. Public broadcasting belongs to the people, not to any political party, and it must remain a strong, unbiased source of news and information. Thank you for your attention to this critical matter. I look forward to your response and to seeing you take action to protect press freedom in America. Sincerely,
