Block Biometric Data Collection from Children's Trump Accounts

To: Sen. Alsobrooks, Sen. Van Hollen, Rep. Elfreth

From: A verified voter in Arnold, MD

July 20

Demand an immediate investigation into the Trump Accounts program and halt any biometric data collection from children until Congress can review what is actually being gathered and why. Robinhood's own privacy statement confirms it extracts facial geometry data from both the parent and the child to participate in this program. That is not a disclosure buried in fine print — it is the government conditioning a $1,000 account on surrendering a minor's biometric identity. Treasury's Privacy and Civil Liberties Impact Assessment, signed May 18, 2026, makes this worse. It simultaneously checks a box acknowledging selfie-based biometric collection and checks another box claiming the system uses no AI. Facial geometry extraction is definitionally an AI/ML process under 15 U.S.C. § 9401(3) — a statute Treasury itself cites. The agency is either incompetent or deliberately misleading the public about what this program does to children's data. Families should not have to choose between a government savings account and handing over their child's face geometry to a for-profit company. Hold a hearing, demand a full accounting of where this biometric data goes and who can access it, and suspend enrollment until there are real legal protections in place.
