I urge the reinstatement of funding for critical clean energy and climate programs like the Clean School Bus Program through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. The Ritenour School District was promised $9.45 million to replace its aging diesel bus fleet with 24 zero-emission electric buses and charging infrastructure through this program. The district acted in good faith, entering into contracts and paying for three buses before funding was abruptly suspended due to an executive order signed on the first day of the new administration. With buses sitting undelivered and invoices unable to be paid, this unforeseen halt jeopardizes the health of students and community members exposed to diesel pollution. Investing in electric school buses reduces greenhouse gas emissions, improves air quality for vulnerable children, and kickstarts the transition to cleaner transportation needed to address climate change and public health. I strongly urge swift action to reinstate this promised funding so school districts like Ritenour can fulfill their clean transportation plans.
