Oppose Taxpayer Funding for Trump's White House Ballroom

To: Sen. Husted, Rep. Joyce, Sen. Moreno

From: A constituent in Willoughby, OH

April 29

Vote no on any legislation authorizing taxpayer funds for the White House ballroom project. This $332 million expenditure is indefensible when Americans are struggling with inflation and the high cost of living. Trump promised this ballroom would be privately funded. Now Senators Graham, Britt, and Schmitt want to hand him $332 million of our money for what amounts to a vanity project built on the ruins of the illegally demolished East Wing. Only 29% of Americans support this ballroom, and that was before they knew taxpayers would foot the bill. Even Republican Senator Josh Hawley opposes putting taxpayers on the hook for this. Congress just cut Medicaid, SNAP, and other programs that help families afford basic necessities. Turning around and spending hundreds of millions on an ornate ballroom most Americans will never see is a slap in the face to every constituent dealing with rising costs. House Minority Leader Jeffries is right: Congress needs to focus on driving down the cost of living, not funding unauthorized destruction and reconstruction of the White House for parties. This is exactly the wrong priority at the wrong time. Block this legislation.
