An Open Letter

To: Sen. Wyden, Sen. Merkley

From: A constituent in Prairie City, OR

March 3

Congress Must Reassert Its Constitutional Authority. Congress must stop allowing the executive branch to usurp its constitutional powers. A necessary first step is halting the war—by the President’s own description—that the executive initiated without congressional authorization. Congress must then follow the Constitution and debate and vote on whether the nation is to be at war. Article I of the U.S. Constitution vests all legislative power in Congress. That authority includes: * The power of the purse * The power to declare war * The power to make laws governing the executive branch The executive branch is charged with faithfully executing the law—not redefining, ignoring, or expanding it at will. Congress must also insist on transparency and constitutional compliance. Release the Epstein files. Demand that ICE obey the Constitution: no administrative warrants, no masked agents, and clear identification as law enforcement at all times. The separation of powers is not optional. It is Congress’s duty to enforce it.
