I am writing to demand an explanation for the glaring contradictions in recent federal drug trafficking policy. As my elected representative, it is your job to make this make sense for your constituents, not ours to rationalize the irreconcilable.
The administration has publicly committed to cracking down on illegal drug trafficking while simultaneously taking actions that appear to enable it. These are not minor inconsistencies. They represent a fundamental contradiction that undermines public trust in our government's commitment to addressing the drug crisis affecting American communities.
When policy decisions appear driven by personal relationships rather than consistent principles, Congress has a constitutional duty to demand accountability. Reports indicate that the president of Honduras wrote a letter to the administration calling him "Your excellency" and blaming the previous administration for an unfair trial. If foreign flattery influences decisions on drug trafficking enforcement, that represents a serious breach of public trust and effective governance.
The American people deserve to know whether our drug policy is based on evidence and the public good, or on who shows deference to those in power. Families devastated by the opioid crisis and communities struggling with drug-related crime need consistent, principled leadership, not contradictory actions that suggest other motivations are at play.
I am asking you to use your oversight authority to investigate these contradictions and provide your constituents with clear answers. What is the actual policy on drug trafficking enforcement? Why do actions contradict stated priorities? What criteria are being used to make these decisions?
This is not a partisan issue. This is about basic accountability and coherent governance. Your constituents need you to do your job and demand explanations from the executive branch. I expect a substantive response detailing what steps you will take to address these concerns.
