Vote against cloture on the FY27 NDAA and oppose Section 1217, which would mandate permanent, expanding military and intelligence integration between the U.S. and Israel. This goes far beyond traditional military assistance — it would lock future administrations into ever-deepening defense cooperation across AI, autonomous weapons, cybersecurity, and biotechnology, while stripping Congress of meaningful oversight.
Israel already receives $3.8 billion annually in U.S. military aid under an MOU through 2028, plus billions more approved since October 2023. Section 1217 and the accompanying intelligence provisions would make that relationship structurally permanent and harder to condition or revisit. Congress should not be binding the hands of future policymakers on any foreign government relationship, full stop.
Senators Van Hollen, Sanders, Warren, Markey, Merkley, and Welch are right to demand amendment votes before this bill advances. Support their effort. Strip Section 1217 and the expanded intelligence-sharing provisions from this bill, or vote no.
