I am writing to demand a clear and public response to a recent message attributed to Donald J. Trump, in which he appeared to threaten the destruction of Iranian infrastructure, referencing “Power Plant Day” and “Bridge Day,” and calling for escalation with language that implies severe harm to civilian targets.
This rhetoric is alarming on its own—but its circulation on Easter Sunday underscores a profound moral contradiction. A day that represents peace, renewal, and hope is being juxtaposed with threats of destruction and violence. A post praising Allah, from a President who claims to be Christian, is dangerously inflammatory even if it was sarcasm.
Targeting civilian infrastructure such as power plants and bridges raises serious concerns under international law. Such actions may constitute violations of the laws of armed conflict and could be considered war crimes if they disproportionately impact civilians.
As my elected representative, I ask you to answer the following clearly and publicly:
- Do you condemn this message and the rhetoric it promotes?
- Do you support or oppose the targeting of civilian infrastructure in any military action?
- Will you commit to upholding international law and protecting civilian lives in matters of war and foreign policy?
Your constituents deserve to know where you stand on these critical issues. Silence in the face of such statements is not neutrality—it is complicity.
I look forward to your prompt response.
