Your Weekly Reminder: Stand Up for Your Constituents

To: Sen. Schmitt, Sen. Hawley

From: A verified voter in Kansas City, MO

October 15

This is your weekly reminder that your responsibility is to your constituents—not to a political administration. If you continue to stand by while federal workers are targeted, intimidated, and traumatized by the actions of this administration, you should not be surprised when your constituents begin questioning whether you deserve their continued support. Your continued support of an administration whose policies and actions have caused significant harm to federal employees, including the actions of Russell Vought and Scott Pothor, is unacceptable. Federal workers are human beings. They have families, bills to pay, careers they have dedicated years to building, and a right to be treated with dignity and respect. They should not have to live under a constant cloud of fear, uncertainty, and retaliation because of the political agenda of those in power. Where are you when your constituents need you to stand up for them? Where is your willingness to speak out, demand accountability, and defend the people whose interests you were elected to represent? Silence and continued support are choices. And those choices have consequences. You have a responsibility to hold this administration accountable when its actions harm the people you represent. You have a responsibility to defend federal workers against unjust treatment. And you have a responsibility to put your constituents ahead of political loyalty. Let me be absolutely clear: you have a choice. You can stand up for your constituents, defend federal workers, and demonstrate that your office still answers to the American people—or you can continue supporting an administration whose actions are causing so much damage. You cannot expect constituents to stand behind you if you refuse to stand up for them. So I will ask you directly: Do you intend to represent your constituents, or do you intend to continue putting this administration’s agenda ahead of their well-being? Because every week that passes without meaningful action is another week that your constituents are watching, remembering, and drawing their own conclusions about your leadership. I expect more than silence. I expect more than empty statements. I expect action, accountability, and the courage to stand up for the people you were elected to serve. Consider this your weekly reminder: your constituents are paying attention, and your actions—or your failure to act—matter.
