Thank You, President Biden
To: Pres. Biden
From: A constituent in Tyler, TX
July 21, 2024
First of all, thank you and may God bless you for your service to this nation. We clearly do not deserve you. And I am so deeply sorry that you have had to endure the attacks, smears, and just downright nasty behavior that have been directed at you over the past couple of months. You do not deserve that. I’m a 62-year-old woman in Texas, a blue speck in a vast red cesspool, and it has been a joy and an honor to call you president. I’d love to say that my vote helped make that happen, but I am well aware that as a Democrat in Texas, my vote doesn’t count. Even so, I am proud, and always will be, that I voted for you. And I was more than ready and willing to do so again. I’m heartbroken that I will no longer have that option. I will, of course, vote for whoever the Democratic nominee is, and I hope to high heaven that it is Vice President Harris. I would be more than happy to vote for her. I’d just hoped I’d have that option in 2028 rather than now. You have been the most consequential President of my lifetime. You have done us liberals proud. More to the point, you’ve done us Americans, and human beings, proud. Your presidency has been stellar. Thank you. I have to admit that I’m scared now. You were, I thought, the only candidate who could have beaten the orange asshole and beaten back the tide of fascism overtaking this country. But the white tech bros, big donors, and smug podcasters, not to mention our useless National Media™️, couldn’t allow that. I’m sure they’ll all do fine under Dear Leader’s reign of rage, grievance, incompetence, and greed. It’s the rest of us I worry about. I worry about my daughters. Hell, I worry about everyone’s daughters. I worry about our LGBTQ+ brothers and sisters, I worry about our brothers and sisters of color, about the migrants seeking refuge in what they believe is this country of hope and opportunity. These beloved souls will not fare well under what I fear is coming. I want you to know that I never lost confidence or faith in you. I never for a moment wanted you to exit the race. I hoped against hope that you’d stay in and prove all the doubters wrong, just as you did in 2020. I know you have no idea who I am, but I feel like you need to know that someone, somewhere, was still, and always, in your corner. I had your back, just as you’ve had all of ours. Again, thank you, from the bottom of my heart. You were a shining example of what true love of country looks like. You were a big fucking deal. I wish you well. God knows you deserve that, and so much more. I only wish I could have watched you make this country even better in your second administration. Again, thank you, and may God bless you. It has been an honor sharing the past four years with you.
