The framing of this bill as a mere "sanctions" measure is a transparent attempt to mask the expansion of executive surveillance authority. We are watching closely as you negotiate away our privacy in the shadow of the FISA Section 702 expiration. The American people are sick of "bipartisan compromises" that inevitably result in the warrantless surveillance of U.S. citizens and the erosion of judicial oversight. My demands are non-negotiable: 1. Oppose H.R. 5557: Do not wrap more power for the executive branch in the flag of "security." We know how these "sanctions" and "authorities" are eventually turned inward against domestic dissent and private citizens. 2. No Warrant, No Vote: Stop renewing or expanding surveillance powers—including Section 702—without a mandatory warrant requirement for any search involving a U.S. person. 3. End the "Backdoor" Searches: The loophole that allows federal agencies to sift through our private communications without a warrant is a cancer on our democracy. If you continue to prioritize the demands of the intelligence community over the civil liberties of your constituents, do not expect our support at the ballot box. We are finished accepting the false choice between safety and privacy. This is your final warning. Vote against H.R. 5557 and any reauthorization of spying powers that lacks robust, warrant-based protections. Stand up for the Bill of Rights, or find a new career.
