I'm asking you to oppose Michigan's kratom ban and instead support a regulatory framework like the ones adopted by thirty other states. Prohibition is a failed strategy that ignores the reality of drug use and pushes consumers toward unregulated, potentially dangerous alternatives.
The Michigan House bypassed any meaningful conversation about regulation and jumped straight to a ban. This is exactly the wrong approach. Thirty states have successfully implemented targeted regulations like age restrictions and potency caps that reduce potential harms while maintaining legal access. These harm reduction policies work because they acknowledge reality instead of pretending prohibition will eliminate use.
Michigan had an opportunity to meaningfully reform its drug policy and chose the easy political route instead. Regulation protects consumers through quality standards and age limits. A ban simply drives the market underground where there are no protections at all. I want Michigan to join the states that have chosen evidence-based harm reduction over outdated prohibition tactics.
