Why Is Our President Easing Pressure on Putin While Squeezing Ukraine? I am asking you to act now to remove President Trump from office and to commit Congress to Ukraine and NATO. This month he waived the core of a sanctions law he signed less than a month earlier, while his administration pressed the country being bombed to stand down. On September 18, he signed the Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act, passed by large bipartisan margins. On October 9, after a call with Putin, Treasury issued General License 135 allowing Russian diesel imports through April 2027. Senator Tillis said there is a legitimate case the president is not following the law, and a bipartisan group of senators agreed. Treasury says it is lawful, and no court has ruled. On October 16, two days before the Graham Act's penalties took effect, he waived them. The law allows a waiver, but the toughest Russia sanctions of this war were switched off within a month. Semafor reported the diesel deal could send some $4 billion to Moscow. Asked if Russia might use the proceeds for weapons, Trump said, "Nobody's telling me anything." Axios reported Putin would not commit to resuming peace talks. CNN reported the administration warned Ukraine it could cut intelligence sharing if it kept striking Russian refineries; the president says sharing continues. The UN verified 2,570 Ukrainian civilians killed from January through September 2026, 59 percent more than a year earlier, and Kyiv saw civilian casualties on 22 of 30 days in September. On NATO, Trump told Axios he was "not concerned ... at all" about a Russian attack, even as Denmark's intelligence service warned of a growing risk of a limited attack on NATO states. Even Secretary of State Rubio says the U.S. fears the war will spread into Europe. Deterrence only works if allies and adversaries believe America keeps its word, and a law that can be switched off in weeks leaves Congress's power over foreign policy meaningless. I am a citizen of a nation I believe is being betrayed by the office meant to defend it. This is not partisan: Republican and Democratic senators have urged him to reverse course. I expect laws to be carried out and America's word to the allies who stood with us to hold. I am asking you to: 1. Vote to advance impeachment and urge the Cabinet to consider the 25th Amendment. 2. Hold hearings on General License 135 and the waiver, and demand to know who profits. 3. Support legislation reversing both and reaffirming Article 5 and support for Ukraine. So why is our president easing pressure on Putin while squeezing Ukraine? His own answer is cheaper fuel before the midterms. That is not good enough. Please act while there is still time. Thank you for your service.
