To my elected representatives: I have written to you all many times on various issues, but rarely with the despair and anger of feel now. The country we love is being ripped apart one piece at a time. The already meager social net is being sacrificed at the alter of billionaires’ profits. Our closest allies no longer trust us and our president blames victims for their own invasion. Tariffs have been imposed without provocation and US markets are already trending down. Trump repeatedly attempts to use the executive power to nullify the legal power of congress and even overturn our constitution itself. Now he is posting that protestors on college campuses risk imprisonment or deportation for exercising their right to assembly. Please. This has gone far enough and I cannot believe that you truly support the destruction of the United States. It’s not too late to stand up and make your voice heard. Trump is not invulnerable; he only has the power we give him. Everyday he is allowed to ignore our laws is another day in which he solidifies his authoritarian position. This is the USA. We claim to be the greatest country on earth, yet we are allowing at least a century of progress to be discarded without a fight. Stand up. Voice your true opinion, not what you are told or threatened to say. The American people will be with you if you stand on the right side of history.
