VOTE NO on S.J.Res 102 / H.J.Res 142

To: Rep. Larsen, Sen. Murray, Sen. Cantwell

From: A constituent in Clinton, WA

February 3

I'm contacting you today to urge you to VOTE NO on the disapproval resolution to overturn Washington D.C.’s local tax code – S.J.Res 102 / H.J.Res 142. This is a crucial matter for the residents of D.C. It’s concerning that Sen. Scott and Rep. Gill are attempting to undo changes that ensure consistency in D.C.'s budget following recent Congressional actions. Eleven other states have made similar adjustments to their tax codes in the past year. These changes are vital for the D.C. community. They codify the local Child Tax Credit, expand the Earned Income Tax Credit, and would lift approximately 1 in 5 children in D.C. out of poverty. These are local policies that don't impact anyone outside of D.C. and shouldn't be subject to Congressional interference. As D.C. lacks full representation in Congress, all Representatives and Senators should be considering the needs of their community. This effort is anti-family, destabilizing to DC’s finances, and frankly, wrong. D.C. deserves the same autonomy as any other community in the United States to determine its own tax policies. Can I count on you to VOTE NO on S.J.Res 102 or H.J.Res 142? Your support for D.C.'s right to self-governance would be deeply appreciated.
