I am writing again to express my outrage at the president’s nonsensical tariffs and the damage they are doing to the economy. Trump’s needless tariffs have backfired. Formerly-friendly trading partners are responding with their own retaliatory tariffs. The stock market is in freefall. This intolerable environment will drive the US and global economies into a recession, or worse. Last week, my wife and I were planning our retirement. Now, with our 401ks dwindling, that looks to be a pipe dream. You, as member of Congress, have the power to stop this financial bloodbath. The president has usurped your Article One constitutional authority in unilaterally launching these tariffs. Congress must reassert its authority to halt these harmful and needless tariffs before they do more damage. Or are you at peace with your Constitutionally-granted power being taken away? Your apparent inaction indicates you are. Trump’s destructive and nonsensical tariffs must end, and his authority to levy them must be curtailed. My wife and I urge you in the strongest terms to repeal these counterproductive tariffs and restore our economy.
