As your constituent, I am writing regarding the Fiscal Year 2027 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Specifically, I strongly object to any provisions or riders that allow the military to bypass standard safety testing and operational evaluation for artificial intelligence and autonomous weapons.
Anyone who works with technology knows a simple truth: testing is not red tape. Testing is what prevents disasters.
If a normal software program glitches, a website goes down or a bank account freezes. If an AI-driven weapon system experiences an algorithmic glitch, innocent people die and American troops are put at risk. Rushing automated weapons into the field without rigorous operational testing is a threat to our own national security. We must prove these systems can reliably distinguish between a legitimate target and a civilian before they are deployed, not after.
Whether this bill is being debated on the House floor or in the reconciliation process, I urge you to protect our human safety and military readiness. Please vote to strip out any provisions that fast-track military AI by overriding standard, independent testing rules.
We need data-driven safety and real human oversight, not shortcuts on technology that carries life-or-death consequences. I will be tracking your votes on this issue.
