As your constituent, I urge you to stand by your legacy of demanding Department of Justice independence and vote against confirming Todd Blanche as Attorney General.
During the Obama administration, you firmly opposed Eric Holder and Loretta Lynch to protect the DOJ from political conflicts of interest. You rightly argued that the nation's top law enforcement official must avoid even the appearance of a conflict and never act as the president's personal advocate.
Todd Blanche’s nomination violates the very standards you championed. Moving directly from serving as Donald Trump’s personal defense attorney to running the DOJ shatters institutional neutrality.
I share your deep concerns regarding the Trump v. IRS settlement Mr. Blanche signed, which a federal judge called collusive. Forever barring the government from auditing the President's business entities is an alarming shield for executive power. Furthermore, despite his claims, the $1.8 billion "anti-weaponization" fund remains part of a legally binding contract that has not been dissolved in writing.
Please apply the same rigorous, principled standards to this administration that you did to the past. Vote NO on Todd Blanche.
