As an ordinary man, humbly grounded in the values of human dignity, compassion and mutual respect, I bear the disquieting weight of immense distress for the peak of violence witnessed lately. The reports of large scale suffering and destruction, particularly in the regions of Palestine, beckon me to appeal for an immediate ceasefire. Based on universal principles of human rights and justice, I entreat you to reflect upon and reconsider the implications of the U.S. funding of Israel's actions against Palestinian civilians. Mass devastation and loss of life insidiously shroud the path of human progress and foster a culture of intolerance and conflict. Emblazoned with the images of innocent civilians, and their lives torn apart, our shared memory as mankind should narratively underscore the human cost of reckless decisions. I proffer, passionately, that your position allows you to intervene directly and effectively in the ongoing crisis. It is important to understand that while one has the right to defend, this same right should not bear brutal implications for innocent civilians who get caught up in the crossfire. It is my plea to you to cease the sending of arms, tools that only feed the monstrous appetite of destruction and chaos. There is an insistent need for governments worldwide to actively fight against crimes against humanity, however, advocating for peace while funding war is a paradox that leaves the less fortunate at a disadvantage. The juxtaposition of ‘promoting peace’ and ‘financing violence’ leads to questions on the integrity of our pursuits. The abolition of crimes against humanity begins with defying the very actions that lead to them - such actions include the funneling of arms and funding of military operations that victimize civilians. The hour has come for us to transcend conflict and stand unequivocally for justice and peace.
