Millions of Americans risk losing their health insurance coverage if the "One Big, Beautiful Bill Act" becomes law. This sprawling legislation makes drastic cuts and changes to Medicaid, the Affordable Care Act (ACA), and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) that would steadily reduce enrollment over the next decade. The nonpartisan estimates indicate roughly 11.8 million adults and children could lose coverage due to provisions like: More frequent income and eligibility checks that could cause people to lose Medicaid over missed paperwork. States will be required to verify enrollees' income, address, and life status every 6 months, increasing bureaucratic hurdles. Barriers to kids enrolling in CHIP, such as waiting periods after transitioning from private insurance and allowing states to lock out children whose parents owe premium payments. Narrowing the definition of who qualifies for ACA subsidies, restricting access for refugees and immigrants. Federal funding cuts also threaten state coverage for some immigrants. Instituting work requirements of 80 hours per month for most able-bodied adults on Medicaid, which experts warn inevitably leads to eligible people losing coverage due to documentation and reporting issues. Reversing policies that streamlined Medicaid/Medicare enrollment for low-income seniors and those with disabilities. These measures reverse years of health coverage gains and represent an enormous rollback of the social safety net, jeopardizing access to care for millions. I urge you to oppose any legislation that so drastically undermines American families' access to essential health services.
