Preserve funding for libraries and museums

To: Sen. Fetterman, Sen. McCormick, Rep. Reschenthaler

March 17

Libraries and museums are invaluable cultural institutions that preserve our nation's heritage and provide educational resources accessible to all citizens, especially students and researchers. Their modest budgets are already stretched thin, making the proposed elimination of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) an egregious attack on these pillars of knowledge and opportunity. The IMLS is the sole federal agency dedicated to funding vital library services such as early literacy programs, internet access, job assistance, resources for the visually impaired, research materials, veteran support, STEM education, and small business resources. Dismissing the IMLS's mission is dismissing the aspirations and everyday needs of millions of Americans, particularly those in underserved rural communities. I urge you to take a stand against this misguided attempt to defund libraries and museums. These institutions play a crucial role in advancing education, opportunity, and cultural preservation for all. Please work to maintain federal funding for the IMLS and protect these invaluable community resources.
