Pass "No Kings Act" to uphold rule of law
To: Sen. Rubio, Sen. Scott
From: A constituent in Melbourne, FL
November 17
The Supreme Court's recent ruling granting broad immunity to presidents from criminal prosecution for official acts is a deeply troubling decision that undermines the foundational principle of equal justice under the law. No one, regardless of position or power, should be above the law in a true democracy. By declaring presidents as untouchable "kings," the Court has opened a dangerous path towards unchecked presidential abuse and autocracy. That is why it is imperative for Congress to take swift action and pass the "No Kings Act" introduced by Senator Schumer. This critical legislation would firmly establish that presidents enjoy no special immunity from criminal liability for their actions while in office. It would reinforce the core democratic value that all citizens, including the nation's highest leader, must answer to the rule of law. Failing to rebuke the Court's overreach would deeply erode public faith in our systems of accountability and checks and balances. It would send a chilling message that political power can shield even the most egregious crimes from legal consequences. This is unacceptable in a society governed by laws, not monarchs. The American people deserve better than a presidency imbued with kingly prerogatives. Our nation's founders explicitly rejected monarchy and absolute executive power. Congress must act decisively to uphold this anti-royalist vision and protect the integrity of the justice system by swiftly passing the No Kings Act into law. The foundational democratic principles at stake are too vital to neglect.
