Bombs and Blockades are NOT Peace. Time for War Powers.

I am writing to state my firm opposition to the unauthorized war of choice and ongoing naval blockade against Iran, and to demand accountability for an administration that continues to mislead the public. Despite official assertions that hostilities have "terminated," the reality on the ground tells a different story. A unilateral naval blockade and continued maritime skirmishes do not constitute peace. A temporary reduction in hostilities is no substitute for a lasting resolution. Whatever the initial justifications for this campaign, independent audits estimate the cost has already surpassed $113 billion in taxpayer funds, severely depleting our military munitions stockpiles while diminishing our regional leverage. The administration's current trajectory is unsustainable for three key reasons: - Executive Deception on Hostilities: The administration cannot be allowed to use a questionable ceasefire as a legal loophole to bypass the War Powers Act while actively maintaining a naval blockade. Congress must define the reality of active hostilities, not the executive branch. - Fiscal Firewalls: The administration claims the proposed $300 billion Reconstruction and Development Fund will rely entirely on private corporate investment. Given the lack of transparency thus far, Congress must implement strict, legally binding guardrails to ensure American taxpayers are not quietly saddled with the bill for a conflict that was entirely avoidable. - Strategic & Nuclear Failure: True national strength is measured by durable results. Years of "maximum pressure" have demonstrably accelerated Iran’s nuclear advancements rather than halting them, leaving us with less leverage than we possessed under previous, multilateral frameworks. To protect our national interests and reassert Article I Congressional authority, I urge you to take the following concrete actions: 1. Finalize the War Powers Resolution: The House has already fulfilled its constitutional duty by passing the War Powers Resolution. I urge you to ensure this moves to a final vote in the Senate immediately. The ongoing blockade and military engagement remain unauthorized, and it is time for Congress to officially terminate our involvement. 2. Mandate a Full Munitions & Expense Audit: Demand a transparent, independent accounting of the actual billions spent and the true state of our depleted military stockpiles, forcing the administration to answer for discrepancies in their public reporting. 3. Block Unverified Disbursements: Withhold approval for any sanctions relief, asset thaws, or reconstruction frameworks until the administration provides verifiable evidence of durable, non-reversible nuclear non-proliferation guarantees subjected to full review under the Case-Zablocki Act and INARA. We cannot afford a foreign policy managed by executive trial-and-error and shifting narratives. It is time for Congress to assert its constitutional role, demand absolute truth, and bring this cycle of executive overreach to an end.
