Uphold Election Integrity NOW
To: Dir. Watson
From: A verified voter in Roxana, IL
August 16
An election has never been canceled, in America’s history—including during World War II. As a concerned American citizen watching the executive branch make baseless preemptive claims of election/voter fraud before ballots have been cast by saying “The only way they can get elected is to cheat.” Insinuating that any democratic victory is illegitimate. Threats of implementing heavily armed ICE agents at polling places to intimidate voters and election judges and stunt turnout, bullying states into not offering vote-by-mail, and restricting senior citizens in nursing homes from receiving assistance with their ballots is all the more reason to sound the alarm bells for voter suppression.
I urge you to take charge of Illinois’ elections, protecting their integrity by implementing changes that are more stringent. Under no circumstances should the Trump administration be allowed to seize ballots—sue the administration if this occurs. Any updates to the tabulators (even De Minimis updates) should be scrutinized and reviewed by a nonpartisan third-party before they are released to the machines. Especially, if the updates are conveniently and suspiciously timed a few months prior to a keystone election. Tabulators should be quality checked the day of the election.
We are counting on you to uphold the integrity of Illinois elections.
