I am writing to express my strong opposition to the health care provisions in the Republican budget. Independent analysis by the Congressional Budget Office and the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities confirms that the budget’s mandate for the Energy & Commerce Committee to cut $880 billion over the next decade cannot be met without significant reductions in Medicaid, CHIP, and ACA subsidies. Non-health spending under that committee’s jurisdiction only accounts for about $381 billion, making deep health care cuts inevitable. The real-world consequences are devastating: Millions of Americans, including children and seniors, will lose health coverage or face higher costs. Rural hospitals and maternity wards may close due to Medicaid reimbursement losses. States will be forced to absorb costs they cannot afford, leading to higher state taxes or cuts to other essential services. I respectfully request that you: Acknowledge the facts—cuts of this size necessarily reduce health coverage and benefits. Stop misrepresenting the Democratic position. Democrats are not calling for unlimited spending or coverage for undocumented persons. They are seeking to preserve essential coverage for millions of Americans. Work toward bipartisan solutions that protect access to care rather than dismantle it. The health of our nation should not be treated as a partisan bargaining chip. Why are you OK with spending billions of tax dollars to bail out Argentina’s failed economy instead of supporting healthcare for Americans? I urge you to put people above politics and protect the care that millions of Americans rely on.
