I write to you today with a plea borne out of a deep-seated human sense of justice, love, and empathy – sentiments that bind us all together as sentient beings capable of discerning right from wrong. Our world witnesses everyday atrocities, wars, and injustices that shake us to the core. However, among these, few are as starkly distressing as the current situation in Israel and Palestine. It is a conflict that evokes a profound sense of sorrow and an urgent appeal for an immediate ceasefire, especially considering U.S. involvement, both directly via funding and indirectly through the provision of arms to Israel.
It would be unconscionable to stay silent about the gross violations of human rights and principles of justice that we claim to hold dear as a moral, democratic society when our resources, our taxes are weaponized against a marginalized population. We finance the procurement of advanced firearms, supplies, and support that have transformed this conflict into a one-sided massacre - it isn't war, it's annihilation. Our dollars, instead of funding education, healthcare, or struggling American families, inadvertently sponsor bombings of schools, hospitals, and innocent Palestinian families in their own homes.
This is our plea. Let this crisis be remembered not for its bloodshed, but for its resolution. Let us realign our priorities, recognizing the sanctity of human life transcends borders and politics. Let the annals of history not condemn us for turning our gaze away from this brutal injustice but instead celebrate us for the courage to correct our course. The demand is simple: Cease the U.S. funding of Israel's aggression against Palestinians and halt the export of arms that only serve to fuel this tragic conflict. Stop crimes against humanity. Let peace prevail.
