Public Schools
To: V.P. Harris
From: A constituent in New Bern, NC

I'd like to hear discussions on public education. As a 35 year veteran teacher in NC, I am GREATLY concerned about too much local, partisan control. ying guns. Now that school boards are partisan, agendas are being pushed rather than standards and curriculum. Examples are masking, book banning, and teachers carr l boards and state legislators. Teachers and administrators are no longer viewed/treated as the experts. Most spend 4-6 years attaining degrees only to be belittled and devalued by loca I am petrified regarding the education portion of Project 2025. My state, NC, has systematically been deconstructing public schools for 30 years. And, it IS working! ildren will be left with the pieces of dilapidated public schools. On our current path, public schools will continue to be underfunded and ignored. Our brightest and best disadvantaged, children of color and immigrant ch Teachers are leaving the profession in droves. We are quickly approaching crisis level in NC as well as many other states. Colleges of Education enrollme nt are dropping drastically. I would welcome national attention on teacher working conditions and salaries. As you and Governor Walz are keenly aware, without strong public schools, we all fail.
