Vote NO on HR1 and Related

I am writing to ask that you not only vote NO on the bill currently being considered as H.R.1, but also that you urge your colleagues to do the same. That bill will add trillions to the deficit (via tax cuts for the wealthy and for corporations) while increasing the burdens felt by those most in need in our country (via cuts and/or added restrictions on programs such as Medicaid and SNAP). The portions of the bill that can reasonably be said to actually involve the budget would, on their own, be reason to vote against this bill for anyone not acting with cruelty as a goal and for anyone who wants to even pretend to be fiscally responsible. If this bill is passed, our nation's debt will balloon and Americans will die. In addition to the budget-related items, provisions such as removing the judiciary's power to act when government officials violate court orders is not only a ridiculous attack on one the coequal branches of our government, but is either foolishly short-sighted even for those currently in a position to benefit from such (as they would certainly not be in favor of such should they not be in power) or a tacit endorsement of further eroding our country's democracy (should they expect that they could never lose their current position of power). Or both, as no regime such as the one currently attempting to consolidate dictatorial power in our country has ever gone very long before turning on some of those who helped it to gain said power. Any provision in this bill worth passing is capable of being passed alone. Combining the insane with the halfway reasonable in a bill like this would only be done by those who know that there are items that no Congress would or should ever pass along but that they want either for personal gain or for the sake of cruelty itself. H.R.1 will make hundreds of thousands of struggling Americans, if not millions, more desperate than they already are. It will also remove some peaceful means that said desperate people would have to attempt to obtain redress from our government. That is not a situation that any sensible person in power would ever want to create, as it will not end well for anyone. Committee hearings and votes being scheduled for the middle of the night, when those scheduling these actions wrongly think that Americans will not see them, is further proof that they know these measures are cruel and unpopular. Such actions may have hidden the names of those responsible from Americans once, but it will not hide them in today's world. Vote NO. Urge your colleagues to also vote NO.
