Freeze the ICE and Border Patrol budgets and launch an immediate congressional investigation into the agency's hiring and vetting failures. The Ohio Immigrant Alliance just published a report identifying 53 ICE and Border Patrol agents who have been charged or sentenced for violent crimes, many of them sexual. Thirteen of those officers were independently verified by Spectrum News to have been convicted of crimes against children, including sexual exploitation and child pornography.
This isn't a few bad actors slipping through the cracks. Andrew Golobic, an ICE officer out of Blue Ash, Ohio, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for using his federal position to coerce sex from vulnerable women under his supervision. Samuel Saxon, the former Assistant Field Office Director for Cincinnati ICE, pleaded guilty to lying to federal investigators after a domestic violence incident. ICE's own website promises comprehensive background checks and continuous vetting. That promise is a lie.
Congress has the power to cut funding, mandate independent oversight, and force real accountability measures. The people being harmed by these agents are among the most vulnerable in the country, and the agency tasked with protecting the border is actively preying on them. This cannot wait for another report or another conviction. Act now.
